Faculty of Medicine, University of Ruhuna is the only medical school located in the southern part of Sri Lanka. This medical school was established in 1980 and has come a long way to become one of the best medical schools in Sri Lanka.
Quality of the graduates is second to none of the graduates from other medical schools in the world. Research capability has increased to become an important centre for research in the region. 


Allied Health Program
Overview
The allied health program has been established by the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ruhuna to provide undergraduate training programme in disciplines related to health sector such as Nursing, Medical Laboratory Sciences and Pharmacy. The need for such undergraduate degree courses have arisen due to the burgeoning needs of the country's health sector, which increasingly demand highly trained individuals to cope with the trends in modern health care industry.
These degree courses have been prepared with the aim of making the graduates suitable for employment in both local and international job market. In addition to the training they receive in their relative disciplines the graduates will be trained to conduct research into health related matters and help the expansion of the health education sector in the country.
